PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

The Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management is designed to equip students with the necessary professional skills and managerial competencies required to develop or extend a career in the leisure, tourism and hospitality industry. 

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

At the end of this programme, students will be able to:

  • Acquire a comprehensive and holistic understanding of the tourism and hospitality industry, its developments, career opportunities and challenges;
  • Understand the roles and significance of various participants within the tourism system and hospitality sector;
  • Describe the major tourist market segments and use this segmentation to target and meet the wants, needs and expectations of the travelling public;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the operations of major functional departments in tourism and hospitality organizations;
  • Gain an overview of the marketing principles and basic business management practices within the context of the hospitality and tourism industry;
  • Develop a working knowledge of geographical and environmental factors in tourism associated to destination products and learn how to utilize this knowledge when selling the tourism product;
  • Build a synergy between theory and practice through hands-on practicum and the application of knowledge and skills in case studies and scenarios. 
MODE OF ASSESSMENT

At the commencement of each module, students will be provided the assessment mode and weightings for the module.  Most modules have several points of assessment, which may include assignments, tests, projects and final examinations.

PROGRAMME MODULES

The program consists of 15 modules with a total of 12 months

  • Module 1: Principles of Hospitality Management
  • Module 2: Business Communications
  • Module 3: Destination and Tourism Management
  • Module 4: Economics
  • Module 5: IT and E-Commerce for Tourism and Hospitality
  • Module 6: Accommodation Operations
  • Module 7: Financial Accounting
  • Module 8: Marketing for Tourism and Hospitality
  • Module 9: Foodservice Operations and Management
  • Module 10: Event Management and Coordination
PROGRESSION PATHWAY
  • Students will be awarded Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management issued by PSB Academy, Singapore
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
  • Pass Vietnam National High School Diploma or equivalent, where the equivalent is GCE ‘A’ level, International Baccalaureate or the Australian equivalent.
  • IELTS with an overall score of 5.5 (with writing sub band no less than 4.5)
  • Paper-based TOEFL test score of 525 / Computer-based TOEFL test score of 196 / Internet-based TOEFL test score of 69-70 with minimum score of 14 for writing
